Observation 3:00-3:15, Friday afternoon. H period Upper School choice, working on mashing together Dream On and Sweet Drams.
The group was working on an arrangement. Students were sharing ideas/suggestions. This was a very collaborative project.
A couple students were more engaged then others (one was laying down on the riser).
After agreeing on an arrangement and talking though it Ginger said, “Ok, let’s try it. This might be a disaster, but let’s try it!” A good example of the willingness in this class to try new things, to fail, adjust, and try again.
After the group tried the arrangement, the students discussed what worked and what didn’t. The group did a nice job of providing critical feedback in a positive way. After the feedback, the group gathered around the piano to “try it again.”
Once the group agreed with the arrangement they liked, they noted the changes on their scores. The group was a little chatty at one point. Ginger said, “I’m glad you are all excited about this, but…”
The class was a real workshop. Ellingson and students were building a product together–working through challenges, giving suggestions, asking questions, etc. This was really nice.
